24 Songs I had written and recorded when I was in the hospital in 2021 because I had to have an operation at my heart.
The fears and sorrow I had these days. Music was my therapy to endure this situations.

Über die Ängste und Gedanken die ich in dieser Zeit hatte. Musik war meine Therapie um alles durchzustehen.
The Clinic Days
In december 2020 by accident there was discovered that I had to have an operation at my heart. To save my life.
The best clinic for heart in our region and well known even in the whole world is "UNI Herzzentrum Bad Krozingen" in the south of Germany near the border to France and Switherland. They did a very good job - thank you!!!
Clinic 1 was my stay from 03/09/2021 to 03/31/2021 with 2 operations to "repare" my heart.
Clinic 2 was another stay from 05/05/2021 to 05/18/2021 with 3 smaller operations to cure the wounds that reopened.
Rehabilitation I did in the "Theresienklinik Bad Krozingen", to get back my power from before the first stay.
In the clinics I only had an iPad and the Apple headset for writing lyrics, devolop music, recording and singing. So I had to wait when I am alone in my room to sing or ask for a free room where I could do singing alone (I don't want to sing new melodies to other people before they are fine). At rehabilitation I had a room by my own and a guitar with me. So I could record my guitar and sing more relaxing. But is wasn't a professional recording at all. So this album is a very special and personal project to me - CLINIC DAYS.
Mostly I write my songs in english. But these very special project contains also a few songs in german, because the songs came out in german language.
01. Mein Herz ist schwer
I wrote this song after I got the information that I have to have an operation at my heart. It wasn't clear if I can reach the appointment alive, because no one nows how critical it was. So the time was very hard for me, every minute thinking about what will be ...
The only song I did completely at home before the clinic days.
Nach der unerwartet schlechten Nachricht bald eine OP am Herz haben zu müssen, bricht eine kleine Welt zusammen. Und alleine die Aussage möglichst lebend zur OP zu erscheinen, belastet sehr. Viele Fragen kommen und es ist schwer sich zu motivieren.
Das einzige Lied das komplett noch zu Hause entstanden ist und dort fertig wurde.

Manchmal ist das Leben sehr speziell, jetzt aktuell auch für mich.
Es kommt ein Beben dann sehr schnell, und es erhellt ganz plötzlich.
Mein ganzes Sein ist in Gefahr, Gesundheit rar, du fragst dich:
Ist das gemein, ist es denn wahr, mir ist nicht klar, die Zukunft undurchsichtig.

Schwer fällt das Denken, welch Befund, werd‘ ich gesund, am Ende.
Kann es nicht lenken, jede Stund‘, was ist der Grund, und schaff‘ ich dann die Wende.

Ich hab großes Vertrauen, dass die Klinik das locker packt.
Doch mein größtes Grauen, ist bleibt mein Herz bis dahin noch ganz intakt, intakt?

02. Change the world
Before I have to go to the clinic I got a little gift, a book of the Dalai-Lama. One of his life-mottos is: "If you want the world to change for you, you first gotta change yourself!"

Ich habe vor dem Krankenhaus ein kleines Buch über Interviews mit dem Dalai Lama geschenkt bekommen. Einer seiner Wahlsprüche lautet: Wenn du willst dass sich die Welr für dich ändert, musst zuerst du dich selbst ändern.

03. Serenity
Serenity is very important in life. In the hospital and at rehabilitation I could work on my serenity and expand it. These helped me these days to endure all the bad news I got. I could hide the bad things around and concentrate on healing.

Gelassenheit ist unglaublich wichtig im Leben, egal in welcher Situation. In der Klinik und der Reha habe ich auf die schon vorhandene Gelassenheit noch mehr aufbauen können. Das hat mir geholfen die ganzen immer wieder eingetroffenen schlechten Nachrichten zu überstehen. Damit konnte ich das meiste um mich herum ausblenden und in mir ruhen.

04. Find your own way
Concentrate on yourself! You can hear all the opinions around, but then decide by your own. Find your own way, no matter what other people may say. My own way gave me the power, serenity and calmness to endure 5 operations with success.

Nicht immer auf andere hören, sondern seinen eigenen Weg finden und diesen auch verfolgen. Andere Meinungen und Informationen zu Rate ziehen, aber daraus seinen eigenen Willen und Weg entwickeln. Mein eigener Weg hat mir Kraft, Gelassenheit und die Ruhe gegeben, um 8,5 Wochen und 5 Operationen gut zu überstehen.

05. Wiedersehen
In the beginning it was hard for me to endure the bad news. To have a problem with my heart and that I can die maybe tomorrow. Every minute you think about what will be and if I will survive. Finally I could say, that I have seen many things I wanted to see. But I would miss all the people who are important for me. The imagine hurts to never see them again ...

Es war anfangs sehr schwer damit umzugehen, dass das Leben bald vorbei sein könnte. Aber wenn man auch mal darüber nachdenkt was im schlimmsten Fall passiert und das akzeptiert, hilft es das anzunehmen und daraus Kraft zu schöpfen es gut zu überstehen. Am Ende ist es wichtig zu sagen, ich habe die Dinge erlebt die ich mir gewünscht habe. Und es bleiben dann die Begenungen mit Menschen übrig, die man nicht missen möchte.

06. View inside
I had many examinations these days. First place on the charts was ultrasonic where I could see my heart working and see the new parts of my body. The human body is a wonder itself.

Ich musste in der ganzen Zeit viele Untersuchungen über mich ergehen lassen. Besonders Ultraschall durfte ich viele mit verfolgen und dabei ganz nahen Kontakt zum eigenen Herzen haben. Es ist schon ein Wunder wie der menschliche Körper funktioniert.

07. Tattoo for you
My tattoos were a colourful sign many people recognized during these days. I had many nice chats about this and was identified by my tattoos. At my heart-catheder examination a nurse saw the tattoo on my left leg and lifted up my shirt (no underwear) to see the whole picture. :)

Ich wurde mit meinen tattoos regelmäßig wiedererkannt und bewundert. Z.B. auch „ich mag keine tattoos, aber das ist wirklich toll!“ So war es immer eine schöne Ablenkung und ein nettes Gespräch. Beim Herzkatheder hat man nur das OP-Hemd an. Gleich kam eine Schwester und schaute sich das tattoo auf dem Bein genauer an, dazu muss das Hemd hoch. Zu Hause nach Klinik 2 entstanden und aufgenommen, weil dieses Thema noch fehlte.

08. Life is lethal
The result of a nice chat with a nursing: Life is lethal! From birth do death, there is no escape. But take the best from this wisdom and don't be confused - enjoy your life.

09. Concentration
An old theme I developed with my daughter Jessy. You have to concentrate for school, for work, no matter what you do. I had to concentrate on healing and to get back my power.

Eigentlich eine ältere Idee, die aber wieder ganz aktuell wurde. Egal was du tust, konzentriere dich auf das was du tust, um es gut und richtig zu machen. Auch darauf seine eigene Heilung und den Prozess des gesund werdens mit aller Kraft zu verfolgen.

10. Sleeping my pain away
I had 5 operations, and 5 full anesthesia. But there were never problems before or after the operations. Before I went to sleep I always had nice smalltalk with doctor and nurse. And two times I was recognized by my tattoos ("you again"?).

Ich hatte 5 OPs, alle mit Vollnarkose. Die habe ich alle sehr gut vertragen und hinterher nie Probleme. Vor dem einschläfern habe ich mich immer gut unterhalten mit dem Anästesie- Personal. Ich wurde sogar beim 2. Mal anhand des Tattoos an meinem Bein wiedererkannt. Also ein super Job der Magier mit den Drogen, vielen Dank.

I got to know so many great people at nursing in the hospitals. Unbelieveable engagement to care for the people who are in need. And always a smile and a joke to bring you on your way to health. A big THANK YOU with this song.

Ich habe ganz viele tolle Menschen im Pflegepersonal kennen gelernt, die sich mit unglaublichem Einsatz für das Wohl der Patienten eingesetzt haben. Ganz hohe Motivation und Spaß an der nicht einfachen Arbeit mit nicht immer einfachen Patienten. Ein dickes Dankeschön mit diesem Lied.

All day long in the hospitals there is a whole lot of waiting. You need serenity, relax and distraction. But waiting isn't time of wasting, use the time of waiting, it's your life.

14. Zurück
I thought about my disease, about life and what will be, about if I will come back after the operation. The information about the operation: 8 hours quite dead because no heartbeat and no breath, body cooled down to shelter the body - and a machine had my life in its hand. But I looked forward to the operation, because to wait and hope that you survive every day isn't a option.

Der Text ist auch sehr früh entstanden vor der ersten OP und dann später in Klinik 2 fertiggestellt wurden. Man macht sich ja auch solche Gedanken. Schlechte Nachricht kommt unerwartet, wer rechnet schon damit?
Die Angst schleicht sich in jeden Winkel, was geschieht wohl mit mir?
Auf einmal steht man da und fragt sich wie geht es weiter.
Geht es überhaupt weiter für mich, komme ich zurück?
Was, warum, weshalb, wie, wann grüble ich - Fragen ohne Antwort.
Und ich stehe hier und ich weiß es nicht, was die Zukunft mir bringt.

16. Music is my therapy
As I told my daughter of my music she said: Music is your therapy! Most of the patients had problems with their healing, but I concentrated on my music. This helped me to get well again and to shut out the world around me.

Eine logische Aussage von meiner Tochter Jessy, weil ich mich mit Musik sehr viel beschäftigt habe. Andere haben mit dem Schicksal gehadert, Fernsehen geschaut, rumgesessen. My room-neighbour always watched tv and one day called the number of a commercial to buy the "cheapest and best things on earth". Would he have looked in the internet he had been disappointed ;-)

18. Like a puppet
After the operations I was chained with plugs, strings of electric and tubes. Just like a puppet on a string.
This happened at clinic 1. No guitar, but I wanted to make music. So I created a synth-pop-sound in the stype of the 90s.
This was a start for more songs without recording a guitar and for recording voice with my Apple headset.
Entstanden beim 1. Klinik-Aufenthalt. Keine Gitarre und trotzdem wollte ich weiter Musik machen. Daraus wurde ein Synthi-Pop im Stil der 90er. Nach einer OP hängt man an vielen Kabeln und Schläuchen, das ist sehr anstrengend und Kräfte raubend. Wie eine Marionette. Die Motivation für weitere Lieder die ohne Gitarren entstanden sind und die Vorlage für die zahlreichen Gesangsaufnahmen mit dem Headset des iPhones.

19. Rising up
When things are running bad, there is always a new start and you will rise up again.
Built in clinic 1 at the table in my room. I tried to play keyboard at my iPad and improved it at home and at rehabilitation and recorded it.
Entstanden in der Klinik beim ersten Aufenthalt am Tisch im Zimmer. Ausgebaut auf dem iPad und dann zu Hause zwischen Klinik 1 und Reha aufgenommen.
Auch wenn es schlecht aussieht, es gibt einen neuen Start und man steht wieder auf.

20. With a passionate attitude

I fighted to come back to health and power by running around the floors and up and down the stairs. One day I was asked by another patient if I count the rounds I walked around. And I asked back if he counts the hours he sat down and looked at the wall.

Sei mit dem Herz und dem Kopf dabei wenn du etwas tust. Wenn du das nicht kannst, dann ist es auch nicht der richtige Zeitpunkt dafür. Egal was du tust, wenn du mit allen Sinnen dabei bist, kann es auch gut werden. Das ist natürlich auch in der Klinik und bei der eigenen Heilung so. Ich bin täglich wenn es möglich war gelaufen was möglich war: In den Gängen, Treppen, mit dem Infusionsständer, in und um Bad Krotzingen, sogar bis nach Staufen und zurück.

22. Voices
I love music, and I love beautiful voices. Everyone prefers other terms of music, I prefer beautiful singing beside good music. The idea came to me on a walk at rehabilitation at the "Krotzinger Berg", a little hill beside the town. I had the melodie in my head and - voices ... came out.

I wanted to have a slide guitar, but I had no slide with me. So I used my drinking glas to perform a slide guitar.
Ich liebe Musik - besonders schön finde ich Musik mit einem schönen Gesang. Jeder findet dabei etwas anderes schön, mir gefällt harmonischer schöner Gesang.
Entstandenen in der Reha, die Idee zur Melodie des Refrains hatte ich während eines Spaziergangs am Krotzinger Berg.
